Medicare ACO Performance

The Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services' (CMS) largest program for Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) - the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) - is built on the premise of rewarding ACOs for generating savings through reduced healthcare costs while still demonstrating a reasonably high quality of care. These programs are an important part of a broader movement in healthcare to shift risk from health insurers to the hospitals and providers giving care, aligning cost incentives and hopefully slowing or reversing historical trends of rapidly increasing healthcare expenditures.

This interactive poster plots 372 of these ACOs across five dimensions: Risk, Cost, Savings, Visit Volume and ACO Size.
